PATIALA: A male servant who allegedly killed a woman owner of the house in Khedi Chandwan village of Bhawanigarh in Punjab’s Sangrur district on February 25 after a failed molestation attempt was arrested on Wednesday.
Sangrur Police said that Nitish Kumar (20), who hailed from Bihar, had tried to molest Paramjit Kaur (42) — after finding her alone in the house — before killing her.
Paramjit’s husband Gurcharan Singh had gone out to purchase some agricultural machinery when Nitish returned from the fields to their house.
The house owners’ 18-year-old son had gone to school when the murder took place.
“The accused, after finding Paramjit Kaur alone at her house, first tried to molest her, but later he assaulted her with an axe after the woman had resisted the molestation. A brawl took place between the servant and the woman at 1.20pm following which the accused attacked her on head with an axe. Nitish then tried to hide Gurcharan’s licensed weapon in the fields and also hid Paramjit’s mobile in her room. After killing the woman, the accused also ransacked her room to make the murder look like a robbery by some unknown persons,” said Sangrur senior superintendent of police Surendra Lamba.
The accused was nabbed from the railway station while he was trying to flee.
