6 YouTube channels found spreading fake news and anti-India content, may be banned: Officials | India News

NEW DELHI: The Fact Check unit of the Press Information Bureau on Thursday called out six YouTube channels that were found to be spreading fake news and anti-India content to their nearly 20 lakh subscribers and ministerial action, seeking a ban on the channels, may follow later, government officials said.
Last month, the Fact Check Unit of PIB had exposed three channels peddling fake news. The government had then asked YouTube asking the social media platform to take them down.
The six channels were working in a coordinated manner and spreading fake news about elections, Supreme Court and Parliament proceedings, and the functioning of the government, a statement said. The channels are — Nation TV with over 5.57 lakh subscribers, Samvaad TV with 10.9 lakh subscribers, Sarokar Bharat (21,100), Nation24 (25,400), Swarnim Bharat (6,070) and Samvaad Samachar (3.48 lakh).
“The channels are part of a fake news economy that thrives on monetisation of fake news,” it said.
