Let’s begin with our top story. Actors Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming film “Merry Christmas” dropped their first poster. Katrina took to social media to share the poster. The poster shows two wine glasses clinking with each other and breaking, leaving sharp, broken edges exposed. Katrina’s post invited comments from multiple fans who expressed their excitement for the film. One of them wrote, “Looking forward to this one”, while another one commented, “very interesting poster” on the actor’s post. The film is directed by Sriram Raghavan and will be released in Hindi and Tamil languages. It was first announced in December 2021.
Moving on. Vicky Kaushal was happy about finally performing in a typical Bollywood ‘masala film’, Govinda Naam Mera. The actor who is known for his intense roles delivered an out-and-out mass entertainer for the first time in his career. Most of Vicky’s recent releases have been on streaming platforms, including his latest film. On being asked recently in an interview, if he accepts Bollywood is experiencing stress at the box office and what this means to him, Vicky said that the audience has clearly stated that “they want to watch only good films in cinemas”, no matter what genre it is, or who the star or the language.
Actor Alia Bhatt has lately been spotted going for her workouts and taking charge of her health after welcoming her daughter Raha in November. The Gangubai Kathiawadi actor, who has always spoken about body positivity, recently shared a post on her social media and wrote an inspiring message for new moms. In the picture, Alia is seen doing swing yoga’s inversion technique, which requires a lot of strength from the core. Alia will next be seen in Karan Johar’s directorial Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahaani along with Ranveer Singh. The film also stars Shabana Azmi, Dharmendra and Jaya Bachchan in pivotal roles and will release in 2023. Her Hollywood debut Heart of Gold also releases in 2023.
“Meanwhile, Bollywood star Anil Kapoor celebrated his 66th birthday on December 24, with close family and friends in attendance. Moving on. Veteran actor Asha Parekh has voiced her support for Deepika Padukone amid the Pathaan controversy row. The Dadasaheb Phalke awardee addressed the controversy surrounding Deepika’s fashion choices in the song “Besharam Rang”, and claimed that the film’s sole purpose is entertainment and Bollywood was an easy target. In an interview recently, Parekh said that – “This was very wrong. A film’s sole purpose is entertainment and feels like we are shutting down our minds because we are becoming too close-minded and that is wrong.” Deepika’s dress sparked outrage among several politicians, who urged that Pathaan be banned. Pathaan also stars Shah Rukh Khan & John Abraham and is set to release on January 25.
“On Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birth anniversary, Bhanushali Studios Limited and Legend Studios released the first look of Pankaj Tripathi playing the former prime minister in the film Main Atal Hoon. The actor has sunk into the character with ease and amazed fans with his stunning first look from the feature.
The motion poster video has Tripathi showcasing the many facets of the late PM, who was also an acclaimed poet. Ever since makers had announced that Tripathi would be essaying the part, fans have been excited. Helmed by National Award-winning director Ravi Jadhav and written by Utkarsh Naithani, Main Atal Hoon will release in December 2023. The music for the film has been composed by Salim-Sulaiman with lyrics by Sameer.”
Designer-turned-actor Masaba Gupta recently shared that her love for performing for the audience came from her time as a background dancer in choreographer Shiamak Davar’s group. Speaking about the time Masaba said that – She used to be a background dancer at Filmfare, IIFA and other awards. She even performed at the Commonwealth Games in Australia and enjoyed performing for people. Masaba made her acting debut with the Netflix show Masaba Masaba, which also featured her mother, Neena Gupta. A second season was released earlier this year. She was also seen recently in “Modern Love: Mumbai” which is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Lastly, Rohit Shetty’s comedy caper Cirkus was being touted as the last big film of the year. Trade experts were expecting the film to end a mostly disappointing year on a positive note. But it seems like Shetty’s magic has not worked this time around. The film, led by Ranveer Singh, has failed to get a solid opening at the ticket counters. It earned in the range of Rs 6.35 to Rs 7.35 crore on its opening day, reported Bollywood Hungama. The figure was almost half of what it was expected to earn. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh was of the view that Shetty always ‘surprised’ the audience and one must not ‘underestimate’ his power of pulling crowds to theatres.
