Greyhounds Close Calendar Year in Dominating Fashion

INDIANAPOLIS – The UIndy men’s basketball (11-2) closed the 2022 calendar year in style on Saturday, earning a 97-61 victory against visiting Ohio Christian from inside Nicoson Hall.

Five Greyhounds finished in double figures, with Kendrick Tchoua leading the way with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Jesse Bingham also impressed, recording 16 points and a team-high six assists.

Overall, the team shot 50.7 percent (36-for-71) from the floor while leading for nearly 38 minutes against the Trailblazers.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Josiah Tynes capped a 9-0 UIndy run midway through the opening half to give the hosts the advantage for good. Tchoua was on double-double watch after 20 minutes, tallying 13 points and nine boards before the break, while it was Bingham who stretched the Hounds’ lead to 21 with 51 ticks left.

It was all Greyhounds in the second half, as the Crimson and Grey led by as many as 41 after a 3-pointer from Ben Nicoson at the 8:01 mark. While Tchoua earned his fourth double-double of the winter almost immediately after halftime, freshman Sean Craig nearly joined his teammate with 11 points and eight rebounds in 19+ minutes.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

– The team’s 23 assists are the most since Feb. 28 earlier this year, with Jarvis Walker – and Bingham – both earning season-bests in the category.
– UIndy continued its defensive prowess, forcing 17 turnovers while recording nine steals and seven blocks. David Ejah led the team with three thefts.
– Fifteen of the Hounds’ 51 rebounds were on the offensive glass, as Tchoua (five) and Craig (four) topping the team.
– Walker finished with double digits in the scoring column for the fourth time this season, including back-to-back performances. The sophomore sunk all seven attempts from the charity stripe.
