TN man puts up posters to celebrate a year of alcohol-free life | Chennai News

CHENNAI: Anniversaries are celebrated for many reasons, birthdays, deaths, weddings and others., but a man in Chengalpet district in Tamil Nadu has put up posters to celebrate completion of one year of being free from alcohol, that too after 32 years of addiction.
D Manoharan, 53, of Bakthavatchalam Nagar in Arthur in Chengalpet district said that alcohol had almost ruined his life completely, before he decided to kick the 32-year-old habit on Feb 26, 2022. “Since I have done something I thought impossible earlier, I decided to put up the poster to create awareness,” he said.
Even his grandchildren, like his other family members, had called his bluff when he said he would give up liquor consumption, because he had been drinking since he was 20-years-old. He got a well-wisher to sponsor the posters to celebrate one year of alcohol-free life.
A housing plot he had bought had to be sold to fund his alcoholism, which cost him Rs 300 to Rs 400 per day. He says that he can feel improvement in his health. His personal relationships have improved too. “Affection from family members was something I missed,” he said.
