WH Smith Sees Further Growth in FY 2023 Driven by Travel-Business Performance

WH Smith PLC said Wednesday that revenue for the 20 weeks to Jan 14. rose, supported by a robust start to the financial year, and that it is confident for growth in fiscal 2023.

The U.K. retailer said total revenue for the period rose 41% compared with the same period a year ago, and increased 20% compared with the prepandemic levels of 2019.

Revenue on a like-for-like basis rose 26% compared with the same period in 2022.

Travel-business revenue rose 77%, with robust growth across all regions. High-street revenue declined 2%, in line with the boards expectations.

“While there is economic uncertainty, passenger numbers globally continue to improve and this, combined with the strength of the group’s growth opportunities, means that we are confident of a year of significant progress in 2023,” the company said.
