NEW DELHI: India on Thursday successfully carried out the night trials of Agni-V nuclear-capable ballistic missile off Odisha coast, ANI reported.
The missile can hit targets beyond 5,000 kilometres, defence sources said.
The test was carried out to validate new technologies and equipment on the missile which is now lighter than before.
The trial has proved the capability to enhance the range of the Agni-V missile, if required.
Last year, in a strong strategic signal to China, India had successfully tested Agni V – its most formidable missile –
which brings even the northernmost part of China within its strike envelope.
The test was is in line with India’s stated policy to have “credible minimum deterrence that underpins the commitment to no first-use (NFU)”, the defence ministry had said.
