VIJAYAWADA: The proposed shifting of the capital to Visakhapatnam is likely to become a reality after Ugadi this year, if the talk in the YSR Congress is analysed. Several ministers have been talking about the shifting and the chief minister’s office has made up its mind to move in April, sources said.
Sources said that chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to move to Visakhapatnam, which was declared as the executive capital. However, he is waiting for the cases pending in the Supreme court challenging his decision.
The case in Supreme Court is due for next hearing on January 31 and the chief minister is likely to take a call after the hearing. “We are clear on decentralisation. It was not just a political decision, but taken in the larger interests of the state and its people,” claimed YSR Congress general secretary and state government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, early this week during his interaction with media.
Interestingly, senior minister Botsa Satyanarayana has made a serious comment in the recent past which also indicates the chief minister’s decision to move to the port city.
The minister had asked the state government either to start functioning from Visakhapatnam or make Uttarandhra a separate state. Meanwhile, the state government has lined up several programmes in Visakhapatnam to make the city known for the rest of the country.
