The City of Batavia lifted its travel and parking bans early Sunday morning, but warn that travel conditions may still be dangerous.

A travel ban remains in effect for the western part of Genesee County including the town of Batavia as of 8 a.m. Dec. 25.

In a statement issued a little before 8 a.m. this morning, City Manager Rachael Tabelski said “The Local Emergency Order, pursuant to Section 24 of the State Executive Law 2B, issued at 1200 hrs. on December 24, 2022, is hereby rescinded for the City of Batavia.”

Other executive orders and the county travel bans may still be in effect, Tabelski noted.

“Travel conditions to the west and north of Batavia may still be dangerous. Please use discretion when traveling in the region,” Tabelski said in the statement.

As of 8 a.m., a travel ban remained in effect for parts of Genesee County, while other parts of the county were under a travel advisory.

The travel ban remains in effect for Alabama, Oakfield, Elba, Pembroke, Darien, Alexander and Batavia.

A travel advisory is in effect for Byron, Bergen, Bethany, Le Roy, Stafford, and Pavilion.

A travel ban means no travel for anyone except emergency vehicles which includes police, fire, ambulance, and snow plows.

A travel advisory means that no unnecessary travel is advised. A trip which could wait until the advisory is lifted should not be made.

Genesee County is under a winter storm warning until 4 a.m. Monday.

Lake effect snow and blowing snow is expected to continue in Genesee and Erie counties, with additional snow accumulations of 1 to 2 feet in the most persistent snows. Winds will gust as high as 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The greatest additional accumulation will be across southern Erie County including the towns of Eden, Hamburg, Orchard Park, and East Aurora, the Weather Service said.

Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility, the Weather Service said.
