MUMBAI: A new forensic report prepared by an American private laboratory, Arsenal Consultingsays there are signs that some hackers planted evidence on the hard drive of the computer of late Fr Stan Swamyan accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist link case who died last July in hospital while in judicial custody, reports Swati Deshpande. He was arrested by the NIA in October 2020 in the January 2018 case.
Arsenal had earlier given similar findings in four reports on co-accused Rona Wilson’s laptop and also that of another co-accused Surendra Gadlingsaying they were “compromised” by alleged malware attacks.
Additional solicitor general Anil Singhwho appeared for the NIA during the various bail arguments of the accused in the case, said, “Such reports do not have any evidentiary value and if at all, the value will be tested only during the criminal trial.”
“Arsenal’s analysis in this case has revealed that Stanislaus Lourduswamy’s computer was compromised by the same attacker identified in Reports I, II, and III over the course of three distinct campaigns, beginning on October 19, 2014 and ending upon the seizure of his computer by Pune police department on June 12, 2019,” the report said, a copy of which is with TOI. The 25-page report was based on a request from Swamy’s defence team.
