The Y2K fashion revival has seen the resurgence of many trends we thought we’d left in the past. From low-rise trousers and exposed thongs to cargo pantsit seems that the most divisive trends from the decade are the ones being revived by adventurous A-listers, including Rita Ora and Kim Kardashian. Now, Katie Holmes has just joined the club by stepping out over the weekend in perhaps *the* most controversial lewk: wearing a dress over jeans.

This weekend, Katie attended the 2022 iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in New York City, repping an outfit that instantly transports us back to the time of The OC and Motorola Razrs. For the occasion, the Dawson’s Creek alum opted for an indigo-hued strapless mini dress featuring intricate bandeau style ruching across the bust. Katie teamed the look with baggy jeans with a frayed hem, revealing a pair of black sneakers. I mean, it’s a classic example of high-low dressing, but it’s also nostalgic AF.

Regardless of where you fall on the trend revival, I think we can all agree that Katie looks amazing with her loosely tousled hair and rosy cheeks.

For those too young to remember this trend back in the noughties (or who have consciously deleted it from their memory), here is how celebs wore the ‘jeans and a nice top dress’ look back in the day.

Here’s Mischa Barton sporting a racer-back style sequin mini with ruching and denim:

Meanwhile, Jessica Alba went for a longer waterfall-style hem:

It was a time, okay? The question is, would you consider reviving the look in 2022?
