“Let’s begin with our top story. Shah Rukh Khan, John Abraham and Deepika Padukone’s film Pathaan is making waves at the box office even before its big premiere on January 25. SRK’s charisma and the hype around Pathaan have led to the reopening of several theatres that were shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The booking for Pathaan began on January 20 and the first day, the film sold over 5 lakh tickets. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said, “This proves people want to watch a big entertainer on the big screen only.” Pathaan is directed by Siddharth Anand and is produced by YRF. “
Moving on. Actor Athiya Shetty and cricketer KL Rahul tied the knot at Suniel Shetty’s Khandala farmhouse on Monday, 23rd January. Suniel Shetty stepped out with his son and actor Ahan Shetty to distribute sweets to the media and commented about how he has now become a father-in-law officially. A video was shared on social media, in which the actor can be heard expressing his gratitude and adding that the wedding ceremony was over and was done well. While the couple kept mum about their nuptials, the lights outside the farmhouse spoke volumes and confirmed all the murmurs. Suniel Shetty had earlier revealed that the couple didn’t want a big fat wedding.
“Filmmaker Sudhir Mishra’s upcoming directorial venture Afwaah, starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Bhumi Pednekar, is set to release theatrically on February 24. Billed as a quirky thriller, the movie is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and filmmaker Anubhav Sinha’s Benaras Mediaworks.
Mishra said Afwaah highlights an important issue and he is looking forward to the audience’s reaction. The director said – “”The super-talented combo of Bhumi and Nawaz have given their best to this unconventional story and I am sure the audience is going to love it.”” Actors Sharib Hashmi, Sumit Kaul, Sumeet Vyas, Rockey Raina and TJ Bhanu round out the cast. “
Meanwhile, a new teaser for Sara Ali Khan’s “Ae Watan Mere Watan” has dropped. Touted to be an ode to unsung freedom fighters, the film is inspired by true events and sees Sara as a freedom fighter. In the new video, Sara quietly assembles a radio-like device in a rather dark room, saying that the British might be under the impression that they have crushed the Quit India Movement, but that is not the case. The film follows her journey from being a college girl in Bombay to becoming a freedom fighter. Ae Watan Mere Watan is produced by Karan Johar and Apoorva Mehta. The film will stream on Amazon Prime Video.
“Bollywood star Salman Khan on Monday, 23rd January shared a still from his highly-anticipated movie Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, while announcing that a teaser of the film will release on the big screens, on January 25, 2023.
The promo will later be released on the internet, and various social media platforms. Salman Khan shared a still in which he was seen staring into the distance with a hint of a smile on his face. This means that the Salman Khan-starrer’s teaser will be played during the screening of Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan also features Venkatesh Daggubati, Pooja Hegde, Jagapathi Babu, Siddharth Nigam, Jassie Gill, Palak Tiwari and Shehnaaz Gill. “
Meanwhile, actor Ranbir Kapoor said “romantic comedy is the toughest genre to crack” as it relies heavily on writing and actors who don’t “hide behind” characters. It was one of the reasons why he took a decade to return to the genre with Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, despite the blockbuster success of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Directed by Luv Ranjan, the rom-com Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar pairs Ranbir Kapoor with Shraddha Kapoor, both collaborating for the first time. Ranbir said there are very few filmmakers in the industry who make films like these and hence he was eager to be a part of this film. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar is set to release theatrically on Holi, March 8.
On Monday, 23rd January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a model of a proposed memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Andaman and Nicobar Islands to commemorate the freedom fighter’s 126th birth anniversary. He also named 21 islands of Andaman and Nicobar after Param Vir Chakra awardees. Actors Sidharth Malhotra, Ajay Devgn and Suniel Shetty, who have played Param Vir Chakra awardees in films, lauded the decision via social media posts. Malhotra, who won rave reviews for his performance as Captain Vikram Batra in Shershaah, wrote on Twitter, “My heart swells with pride that I was fortunate to live the role on screen. This step taken by the PM ensures that Shershaah lives on forever.”
“Lastly, Kareena Kapoor Khan had a busy weekend as she attended the Indian Chamber of Commerce-Young Leaders Forum event in Kolkata on Sunday, 22nd January. At the event, Kareena was asked about the Boycott Bollywood trend and the ongoing cancel culture.
Kareena said, “I don’t agree with it at all.” She added, “If that happens, how will we entertain, how will you have joy and happiness in life? What about entertainment if there are no films?” Kareena and Aamir Khan’s last release Laal Singh Chaddha was one of the films that faced boycott calls last year.”
