JEE Main 2023 Toppers: 20 Candidates Scored 100 percentile; No Female in Top 20

NEW DELHI: Announcing the results in a record five days, a total of 20 candidates scored 100 percentile or 100 NTA score in the Joint Entrance Examination – Main (JEE-Main) 2023 January session which concluded on February 1, 2023. The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the results on Monday night. There are no female candidates in the top 20 this year. The female topper is Meesala Pranathi Sreeja with 99.997259 NTA score. In JEE (Mains) 2022 overall 24 candidates, including two females, scored 100 percentile. In the first session there were 14 toppers with 100 percentile of which one was a female candidate. The next session of JEE (Main) 2023 will be conducted in April.
The 20 toppers include 14 from general category, four from the OBC category and one each from gen-EWS and SC category. While Md Sahil Akhtar is the PwD topper with 99.9848042 NTA score, the SC topper is Deshank Pratap Singh with 100 NTA score and ST topper is Dheeravath Thanuj with 99.99041.

The candidates who scored 100 NTA scores are Abhineet Majety, Amogh Jalan, Apurva Samota, Ashik Stenny, Bikkina Abhinav Chowdary, Deshank Pratap Singh, Dhruv Sanjay Jain, Dnyanesh Hemendra Shinde, Duggineni Venkata Yugesh, Gulshan Kumar, Guthikonda Abhiram, Kaushal Vijayvergiya, Krish Gupta, Mayank Son, NK Vishwaajith, Nipun Goel, Rishi Kalra, Soham Das, Suthar Harshul Sanjaybhai and Vavilala Chidvilas Reddy.
According to a senior ministry official, “Post-pandemic, in order to bring back the academic calendar to its schedule, the ministry has announced the undergraduate entrance calendar for 2023 well in advance in December 2022 and towards the same effort the results are also being announced in a record five days.”
NTA score is not the same as the percentage of marks obtained. The percentiles or NTA scores are normalised across multisession papers and are based on the relative performance of all those who appeared for the examination in one session. The ranks of the candidates are released taking into consideration the best of the two NTA scores in accordance with the policy already in place. Paper 1 is for admission to BTech/ BE programmes in IITs, NITs and centrally-funded technical institutions (CFTIs).

The examination was conducted in 13 languages (Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu) across 574 centres in 287 cities (including 17 cities outside India).
The NTA Score of about 50 candidates have been withheld as they are under scrutiny. The cases of these candidates are being placed before a Committee separately. Their NTA Scores will be declared once the Committee finalizes its report. As first reported by the TOI, the attendance was 95.80% for Paper 1 (BE / BTech), the highest recorded for the exam and for the first time the female registration surpassed the 30% mark (Paper 1 and Paper 2 combined).

Based on the results of JEE-Mains Paper 1 and Paper 2, the top 2.6 lakh candidates will be eligible to appear for the JEEAdvanced exam, which is a one-stop exam to get admission into the 23 premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
Last year the qualifying percentile at JEE (Main) to be eligible for JEE (Advanced), the entrance test for admission to IITs, has registered a four-year-low for all the reserved categories and a three-year low for the unreserved category. A total of around 2.62 lakh candidates from JEE (Main) have qualified for the JEE (Advanced), with the maximum number of successful candidates coming from Uttar Pradesh followed by Maharashtra and Telangana. The cut-off for the unreserved category recorded a marginal decrease — 88.4 this year as against 88.8 in 2021, and significantly low from 90.3 in 2020, while for the OBC-NCL, it is 67 as against 68 in 2021. The cut-offs for the EWS, OBC-NCL, SC and ST are at a four year low. For EWS the cut-off came down from 78.2 in 2019 to 63.1 this year, while for SC it dropped from 54 to 43 during the same period. The qualifying percentile for ST too fell substantially to 26.7 this year from 44.3 in 2019. Of the 9,05,590 candidates who took the JEE (Main), a total of 2,62,157 qualified to take the JEE (Advanced). State-wise, the highest number of candidates have qualified from Uttar Pradesh (35,170), followed by Maharashtra (25,953) and Telangana (25,796). A total of 99.6% of the 2,480 candidates in persons with disability category qualified for the IIT entrance test.
