More travelers have passed through Huntsville International Airport during the first 10 months of this year than they did in all of 2021.

The airport has yet to release its numbers for November and December, which will include people traveling for the holidays. And Thanksgiving is traditionally the busiest day at the airport.

At the end of October, more than 997,000 had either gotten on or off a plane at the airport. A little more than 940,000 passed through the airport during 2021, when the airport began to rebound from the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic.

And 2021 represented 122.8% increase over 2020, when fewer than 560,000 travelers passed through Huntsville.

Huntsville International Airport spokeswoman Mary Swanstrom said last month the airport was on target to exceed 1.2 million passengers by the end of the year. That would mark the second busiest year for the airport since 2012. More than 1.4 million passengers traveled through Huntsville in 2019, just before the pandemic hit. Air travel had been on a steady increase in the years before the pandemic.
