PUDUCHERRY: The Puducherry government on Wednesday declared holidays for classes I to VIII students in government, government-aided and private schools from March 16 to March 26 in view of the spread of viral fever in the Union territory.
Home minister A Namassivayamwho holds the portfolio of school education, made an announcement in this regard in the assembly. He said the government declared the holidays after the directorate of health and family welfare had said that children below the age of 15 years were more susceptible to the viral fever.

The directorate said 35 H3N2 cases were reported in January, 38 in February and 25 so far in March. At present, twelve patients, including six children, are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
