The Lourdes Central Catholic girls’ basketball team recorded its first two wins of the season during road action at Humboldt-Table Rock/Steiner on Friday, Dec. 9, and during home action against Pawnee City on Tuesday, Dec. 13.

Lourdes built a 49-17 lead over HTRS through three quarters of play on Dec. 9 and won 55-31.

Aspen Meyer hit 4-of-6 from the field and had a team-high 19 points. Jenna Box was also 4-of-6 from the field and had 10 points. Theresa Gygi was 7-of-8 from the field and finished with 15. Also scoring were Sofia Fulton, four; Evie Madison, three; Lauren Benedict, three; and Isabelle Fulton, one.

The Knights jumped out to a 27-6 lead in cruising to the Dec. 13 win over Pawnee City by the final of 61-17.

Aspen Meyer shot 9-of-14 from the field and went 6-of-8 at the free throw line for a team-high 24 points. Other scorers were Sofia Fulton, 11; Jenna Box, six; Theresa Gygi, six; Evie Madison, four; Ella Welsh, four; Citlali Rodriguez, two; Isabelle Fulton, two; and Brooklyn Walton, two.

The scoring of the game on Dec. 13 was heavily in favor of the home team, which can lead to sloppy play. Coach Mark Madison said his team stayed focused and played well.

“We ran the floor hard. We transitioned well,” said Coach Madison, adding that the Knights were also able to put in some work on different defensive strategies.
