Paying for Medicare hospital outpatient treatments at lower rates that apply to stand-alone physician offices would save $471 billion over the next 10 years, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association said Tuesday.

The BCBSA, which represents health insurers that cover about 115 million Americans, included the recommendation for expanding “site neutral” payment policies for Medicare in a report of recommendations. It said those recommendations would save $767 billion from 2024-2033 for the government as well as consumers, employers, and other entities that pay for health care.
