Miner Safety and Health App Can Now Be Used in Spanish
The app is available to miners in both English and Spanish.
An app launched in 2022 for miners is now available in a second language, allowing more people to access important information and resources.
According to a news releasethe Miner Safety and Health App, which launched in August 2022 in English, is available in Spanish, the Department of Labor announced in mid-January. To enable Spanish, change the language on your phone to Spanish.
“Spanish-speaking miners throughout the U.S. now have access to important mine safety and health information and their rights as miners in the palm of their hands,” said Assistant Secretary of Labor for Mine Safety and Health Chris Williamson in the news release.
The Miner Safety and Health App contains numerous safety and health topics, including information on combustible materials, fire protection, noise conservation and silica, a list of miner’s rights and information on the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). Users are also able to report incidents and contact MSHA via call or email on the app.
“The Miner Safety and Health app is a resource that empowers miners and helps them play active roles in mine safety and health,” Williamson added. “Even so, the Mine Act makes clear that mine operators have the primary responsibility for maintaining safe and healthy working conditions, including to provide required training for miners.”
In 2021, there were a total of 1,930 injuries and illnesses in the mining industry that led to work days missed, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. That same year, there were 32 deaths in the industry.
The Miner Safety and Health App is available for both Android and iOS devices.
