The path towards universal health coverage

[ad_1]

Overview

Members of parliament have an essential role to play in UHC, which can transform societies by enabling everyone to have access to the health services they need and eliminating the drastic inequalities that exist today.

The core roles of law-making, budgeting and oversight place parliamentarians in a unique position to respond to the needs of populations in general, and their constituents specifically.

That role is not simple, nor is it free of challenges. There are, however, a number of tools and approaches MPs can use to flex their parliamentary muscle and ensure that UHC becomes both a priority and a reality in every country. Those tools are described in this handbook in detail, as are successful approaches adopted by other countries from which everyone can learn. This text will be submitted to Language Services for translation whenever a publication is requested for translation and also provided to WHO Press at the same time as the translation.
